Fireworks Permits Now On Sale

 If you'd like to buy a permit to discharge fireworks in celebration of July 4th, they are on sale now.  Permits are $50 and may be obtained at City Hall during regular office hours.  There is a form to fill out, and a copy of your dirver's license will be taken.  Permits do have restrictions, and may only be sold to persons 18 years and older.  

Persons within the City Limits may use or otherwise discharge permissable fireworks only between the hours of 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. July 3rd and July 4th of the year the permit is issued, provided the following conditions are met: 

*Fireworks must be discharged on a non-combustible surface of sufficient size to contain the entire ground portion of the display and not closer than 25 ft. to any permanent structure.

*The adult person shall obtain a permit from the City at a cost of $50.00.

*The adult permit holder in charge of the use must be physically present for any household member or person to use the fireworks and within 100 ft. of the point of display, and have the permit visibly posted and available for examination by any Law Enforcement Officer.

 *Private person MAY NOT use or discharge fireworks within city limits, any city or county park, street, parking lot,highway, arterial street, or collector street.

Permissable  fireworks shall mean:  Composition or device for the purpose of producing a visible or an audible effect by combustion, explosion, deflagration or detonation, and which is defined as a common or special fireworks by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT).  Fireworks are further classified in this law as Class C or B.  The term "Fireworks" shall not include toy cap pistol and caps, blank cartridges, railroad flares, and model rockets.  A permit will be issued to individuals for use of Class C Fireworks ONLY.

The possession of any fireworks by any individual under the age of eighteen (18) years shall be unlawful with the City, unless under the imnediate and direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or other responsible adult in possession of a current permit.

Any use of fireworks in violation of City Ordinance shall be punished by a fine of $200.00.  Any use of fireworks between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. shall be punished upon conviction by a fine that is double the fine normally imposed for a violation of this section.
