May 1st, 2020 News

I'm reaching out to you today to give you the latest update and plan to honor our Seniors. We will be having a ceremony on May 15th that will be in the format of a drive-through followed by a parade to ensure all students have an opportunity to be honored on the original date when all planned to be there. We then, if allowed, will host a more traditional commencement at Bulldogger Stadium on July 17th.

When: The May 15th parade ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm. Students will be asked to be in their designated parking lot for staging by 6:15 pm. Designated staging parking lots will be distributed through student e-mail and the Class of 2020 Remind within the next week. Join the Class of 2020 Remind by texting @23c4ga to the number 81010.

Where: Following directives from parking lot attendants, students will exit their car at the marked spot on Bulldogger Road, have their names announced, pick up their diploma cover, have their photo taken, and re-enter their vehicle right in front of the entrance to the high school.

Who: Due to the need to still follow guidelines, we will have a limit of one car per student. Feel free to decorate your car to showcase your accomplishments. Your immediate family is welcome and encouraged to join you in your vehicle.

Why: We know and understand the parade ceremony is not ideal. We also know that in these unprecedented times, there is no guarantee of a large traditional ceremony on July 17th. We feel it is important to honor our seniors on the day we committed to honoring them. We strongly believe we need to ensure ALL students are given an opportunity on the planned date to be honored. Keeping this in mind, we would rather honor all of our seniors twice than risk leaving any student out altogether.

How: It will be important that we have the cooperation and understanding from everyone involved in following the CDC guidelines. On May 15th, we will need everyone to stay in their vehicles during the staging. It also will be important that only the student leaves the vehicle once they arrive to the designated spot on Bulldogger Road. The event on campus will not be open to the general public. Due to this, there will be only one car per student allowed on campus. The parade route will follow south on Delaware St. & then east on Don Tyler Ave. The public is welcomed to safely gather along the parade route to honor and celebrate Dewey's Class of 2020. More information on parade route and staging process will be coming out in the coming days.

In closing, we will have a photographer present to commemorate and photograph each student. The May 15th ceremony will be broadcasted live on to allow families to tune into the ceremony and from the safety of your home or vehicle. The kwontv broadcast will also feature pre-recorded Valedictorian addresses.

I have greatly appreciated your understanding during this time. We will continue to provide updates and guidance as we get closer to May 15th and then again as we move through the summer and closer to July 17th.
