Dewey City Manager Submits Resignation

Dewey, OK – Nick Brown, City Manager of Dewey, OK submitted his resignation to the City Council Friday, March 19, in order to become a full-time graduate student at Oklahoma State University this fall.

Brown, who has served as Dewey’s city manager since January 2008, entered OSU’s graduate college as a part-time student last fall to pursue doctoral studies.

"This has been an extremely hard decision to make, but I know that it is best for my family," Brown said. "Studying as a full-time student will allow me to significantly reduce the time necessary for completion of my degree."

During Brown’s term as Dewey’s City Manager, the city has recruited several new retail and industrial businesses, adopted a community brand, increased its presence on the Internet, launched a marketing campaign, made much-needed capital improvements in its parks and library, successfully weathered a serious economic recession and implemented Leadership Dewey, a leadership development program for citizens.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as City Manager in Dewey and am very proud of the work we have accomplished," Brown said. "Dewey is a fine example of the characteristics that make small-town Oklahoma a treasure. I wish the city and all of its citizens the very best for the future."

"I decided to notify the City Council of my decision now so they will have an ample amount of time to conduct a search for a new city manager before I start school in August." Brown’s resignation is effective July 23, 2010.
