Fire Hydrant Flushing Begins Week of October 23, 2017

Residents may notice Dewey's Fire Department members out flushing and testing fire hydrants the week of October 23.  Dates and times will vary, depending upon which volunteer fireman will have the opportunity to do the testing.

Flushing the hydrants may cause your water pressure to be lower than normal while the water is flowing from the hydrant.  This is a temporary pressure loss, and will be rectified after the flushing is completed.

As a result of hydrant flushing, residents in the immediate vicinity may experience temporary discoloration of their water. This discoloration is harmless, and generally consists of mineral deposits which do not affect the safety of water consumption. If you notice that your water is discolored, you can clear this issue by running all water faucets inside your home for approximately 15 minutes, or until the water clears.

If you have noticed hydrant flushing in your area, check the color of the water before doing laundry so that clear water is available for the wash.  Please run all water inside the home for approximately 15 minutes or until water clears. You should check water clarity by capturing a sample from the washing machine in a clear glass or container. If water is cloudy or discolored, please do not wash laundry until the water has cleared up.
