I want to open a business in Dewey. What do I do?

Aside from obtaining an operating permit from the state, you need a permit from the City. Permits are generally $15 per year (a year runs from April 30 to May 1) and can be purchased at City Hall. Permits for home-based businesses are also purchased at City Hall and require approval from the City Manager (based upon the type of business and the covenants of the neighborhood, zoning, etc.). Operating permits are required for businesses located inside City Limits, as well as sales tax permits from the State, or your permit from the state showing your legal business structure. Dewey has a specific sign ordinance. If you are erecting a sign, a permit must be obtained from City Hall. In addition, certain signage is not permitted within the City Limits. Please inquire at City Hall about the sign ordinance or to get a copy of the ordinance. If you are interested in opening a business, you are encouraged to speak with the City Manager about any aspect of it. Please call City Hall to set up an appointment 918-534-2272.
