How do I start water/trash service? What are the rates?

Come in to City Hall and fill out a contract, bringing your valid driver's license or other state-issued I.D. The deposit is usually $100, paid at the time the contract is filled out. Your deposit is refunded to your account after 2 years of penalty-free service or if you move out of the city. Your deposit is transferable to other addresses in Dewey that are served by the Dewey Public Works Authority. Deposits from other cities are not transferable to Dewey.

Trash service is mandatory for properties inside the Dewey city limits and will be added to your water bill.

Dewey Public Works Authority Section 17-502: Placement - Collection reads: A. Garbage and trash receptacles shall be placed at the alley for regular collection service where the premises has access to the alley. In no case shall refuse or refuse containers project more than two feet into the alley or right-of-way.
B. If it is not practical to collect and remove garbage and trash through alley collection, the owner, occupant or lessee of the premises shall place the receptacles at such point as the route supervisor finds and designates to be most accessible for collection and removal.
C. In the business districts served by city container service, the route foreman will designate the area for placement of the containers for removal.
D. For garbage and trash receptacle, placed at the curbside, the receptacle cannot be placed at the curbside before 4:00 p.m. the day prior to the regular scheduled pickup, and the receptacle must be removed from the area by 10:00 p,m. the day of the pickup. Garbage and trash receptacles cannot be stored within the front setback of any residence, nor can they be stored upon a porch or entrance way to the residence.

Residents are allowed a maximum of 3 cans or 6 bags of trash or any combination thereof where 2 bags equals 1 can. These limits double the first collection day following a holiday where collection was not made on its regular scheduled day due to the holiday.

Base rate for water service inside the city limits is $18.00. Minimum usage of 2,000 gallons is included in the $18.00 base charge. Any usage over 2,000 gallons is charged at a rate of $4.32 per 1,000 gallons.
Sewer base rate is $12.00, and an additional rate of $3.40 per 1,000 gallons is charged.
Trash service inside city limits is $18.40 for twice a week pick up.
Residential customers inside city limits also are charged $1 per month for mosquito spraying & street light expenses.

Outside city limits the rates are as follows: base $27.60 and $6.48 per thousand gallons over 2,000 gallons used; sewer base is $18.00 plus an additional $5.10 per 1,000 gallons used; trash pick up is $24.60 per month for twice weekly pick up (if you are within our service area).

Sewer charges are calculated based on the amount of water used each month.

All active water accounts are assessed a $5.00 per month charge to help with the expenses involved in replacing the water tower, and making improvements to the sewer plant.

Other utilities for residents inside the City Limits are: ONG for natural gas; AEP/PSO for electricity; Cable One for cable television.
